Today we had an optional build day. We also got our t-shirts today.
Today is the first/second day of the driver tryouts, which will determine the drivers for the robots. We need two drivers, one for each team. It also doubles as an optional day for things OTHER than building due to the fact that the robots will be used for driving.
Today was an optional build day. We adjusted the parameters of our robot. We also started working on an autonomous program.
Starting Goals: The M+E Design and Build will be updating the Design Engineering Notebook with Tuesday's progress, make sure that the robot can move in both autonomous mode and teleop mode, and make final wiring configurations. If they have time, they should begin to replace controller connectors with yellow Ferrules leads and Anderson power. The Linear slide drive needs to be completed, and ball storage /collector ramps need to be completed as well.
Field build and Maintenance needs to make signs, gather materials, and make a toolbox of tools and replacement parts. Programming will continue to install programs, program, and gather field check materials. Marketing and Fundraising will continue with the video, and Web Design will work on the website. Finally, the Rule Team will check on the rules forum and prepare an update for the whole team. During: Two of the M+E design and build team are working on the linear slide, and two others are working on a clog in the practice field. Another group is working on installing the NXT Brick on the other robot, which I suppose is part of the programming team. One of our mentors is helping with the wiring, currently cutting a wire. The Marketing and Fundraising is working on the video, hopefully (not disturbing them just in case). There is in fact something going on in the Marketing and Fundraising room, meaning that I can't find out the happenings of the teams in there. Things accomplished: Don't know exactly, but I hope that we accomplished all the vital things we needed to accomplish. Another optional build day. No goals once again, but the Web Design team is going to try to upload some videos and pictures.
Today is an Optional Build Day, in which the team members can come (if they want to, of course) to the workshop to work on various tasks.I, the writer, currently have a cold so I will not be here for a majority of the five hour period, but I'm sure that a lot will get done.
I don't know if any goals "Come if you want to, and get some stuff done" were established, so I will not have any beginning goals posted. I will not be able to post what was ultimately accomplished, either. During the hour or two I'm here: The robots seem much more complete than two days ago. In fact, one of the robots appear to be ready for testing! On the other hand, the robot is apparently not ready for testing right now. A crowd formed around the robot, and they're currently tinkering with the batteries. And now it's 'ready' again. Is it though? I'll see soon. According to one of the parent helpers, the robot "will be ready to drive in a minute." A bit too specific, but It'll probably be ready soon. A certain teammate(I'm not going to be referring to teammates specifically in this blog, most of the time) is taking all of the wiffleballs and dropping them into one of the rolling goals. Doesn't seem productive to me, but I won't say he's off-task. Maybe that's what he's been told to do. Actually, it appears that the teammate is not supposed to be moving all the wiffleballs. Some of my other teammates have expressed annoyance that he's doing whatever he's doing. Right now, the robot is still not ready for testing. I've no clue why they placed the robot on the field if they're going to work on it for over half an hour.. Out with the bad, in with the good! This blog isn't going to be posting a sentence or two any more. Instead, it will be composed of beginning goals, what has been accomplished throughout the day, and what happened at the end.
In the beginning, the Field Build and Maintenance team is not working on anything today. Instead, they are grouping up with the other teams due to the game field being complete. In M+E Design and Build, the team has their work cut out: they need to wire their robots for movement, figure out the drive mechanics and work on the Scissor Lift, and figure out what materials to build the ball storage and collector ramps they should use. The Linear Slide drive should be completed, and upon choosing materials the ball storage and collector ramps need to be complete. In my team, Web Design and Communications, the rest of the team will be working on adding 3 new sponsor logos to the scroll of sponsor logos, and will otherwise just be working on the team website. In programming, the team needs to download the program switcher and then design and build autonomous programs for the non-driver controlled period of the match. They then need to develop and build a Teleop program appropriate for the team robot, and talk with the design engineers to determine the number of motors and servos, leaving the test robot set up for driver training. And finally, the Marketing and Fundraising team will be working on T-shirts, a video on What Does the Robotics Team Mean to You? (WDRTM?) and team mottoes, among other things. During the meeting: The Marketing and Fundraising team is currently working on the T-shirt design! The logos have been finalized, so they have gone onto Snap Custom Clothing and are currently deciding on the color of the actual T-shirt. Personally, I like the Indigo Blue and the Royal Blue. Inside the workshop, the M+E team members are currently split up and working on separate things. One group is working on the wiring, while another is working on the linear slide. The programming team is currently figuring out how the controller is working, and designing an autonomous program. On the website team, the members (besides me, of course) are working on the website. They are having a bit of an issue with uploading the test robot video, however. In the other room, the Marketing and Fundraising team is currently making progress with the WDRTM video. I'm not sure about the team mottoes yet, however. And finally, there is currently a fascinating game of wiffleball soccer going on. Not exactly productive, but I'm sure the participants are just waiting for a task. Tasks accomplished as reported in the end meeting: Team overall: Chose T-shirt color, began emailing parents to invite them to our team Website Design: Added videos and photos to website Engineering Notebook: Took pictures, and logged into a place to get Consent Forms. Look at Team Members for more info. Programmers: Today we worked on getting a NXT Brain set up for Binary that works with the controllers. We are also trying to get the Teleop program to run 4 motors. Fundraiser and Marketing: Came up with ideas for the mottoes; worked on sponsor logo. We also made rough draft of “why we like Robotics video”. Mechanical and Electrical design: Our robot can now theoretically drive, worked on the powering system for the scissor lift and got one hole for our frame brace drilled. Today the website team went around taking pictures and videos. We have a video of a test robot knocking over one of the tubes holding in the wiffle balls, but it's on a phone we don't have the cord for.
The other teams continued working on their various tasks, such as constructing the scissor lifts. Today, we had a giant build session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We mainly worked on aspects of the robot but some have made the website better.
